Video: Nathan Hall ENGI Performance

Nathan Hall - ENGI

Nathan continues to show us how sound has the capacity to transform a space - in this case quieting a busy lobby, slowing down people's pace and causing a collective moment among strangers.  During that brief time, visitors were part of something bigger and they were momentraily transported from their expected agenda.

For Nathan's performance, he wanted to create a score inspired by the artwork, ENGI, a digital piece that has a series of numbers changing at different rates.  Using a meditation bowl, bells and singing, Nathan asked each of his performers to follow the rhythms of a particular number sequence.  Adding to the allure, the performers also started and ended the piece as part of the crowd, creating an organic movement to the work that held visitors in a trance.  Watch the video and see how it unfolded.
